Although he never achieved the iconic status given to Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez or Bob Dylan, Harry Chapin did attract a loyal following of fans that adored him for his sentimental character-driven story songs and his lush, orchestrated arrangements.

A number of critics may have considered him sappy, but his fans loved him then and still do. Like most Chapin performances, the dialogue here is essential if you want to know what was behind the song writing. The weight of Chapin's work is immense and is shown by the fact that he peddled only one song from his imminent seventh studio album Dance Band On The Titanic, choosing instead to perform a prized selection of his past work for this solo benefit show. The audience is treated to a mere few pages of his songbook in Illinois tonight and every song is a page-turner.

Klondike proudly presents a night with Harry Chapin with the entire WPGU-FM broadcast of his legendary appearance at the Huff Gym in the University of Illinois, Champaign on 27th March 1977.

Professionally re-mastered original broadcast with background liners and rare archival photographs.
