Formed in San Francisco in 1978, The Explosions primed a retro, new wave hybrid with rockabilly sensibilities, all carried by the unmistakable vocals and presence of singer Pearl E. Gates (aka Pearl Harbor).

They were a rock and roll band without any frills or pretensions otherwise and because that is all they wanted to be. No bullshit or dry ice backdrops, this was the stripped-down return to roots rock 'n' roll that contemporary rockers have since plugged into. When The Minutemen later asked: 'Do you want new wave (or do you want the truth)?' we can answer them with a little of each and a whole lot of fun in-between with Pearl Harbor and The Explosions.

On the cusp of their 1980 album, KALX-FM captured one of new wave's lesser known, but more integral bands with an early and explosive live set.

Interference proudly presents the entire KALX-FM broadcast of Pearl Harbor and The Explosions live from the Zellerbach Auditorium U.C. Campus on 24th April 1979.

Professionally re-mastered original broadcast with background liners, interviews and rare archival photos.
