Long before her commercial breakthrough in the late 1980s, Lucinda Williams was singing and writing material mixing folk, blues, and country with a personal, heartfelt stamp.
This KUT-FM live broadcast was recorded for an Austin, Texas public radio station, combining highlights of her second album (1980's Happy Woman Blues) with a couple early blues covers and newly penned songs, some of which wouldn't find a place on any of her official '80s releases.
With a couple members of local Austin trio Uncle Walt's Band serving as accompanists, it's Williams at her sparsest and folkies, capturing the era in which she blossomed into a singer-songwriter of great originality and distinction.
